Situated in the typical Alfama district, the Museum of Fado also known as the House of Fado and Portuguese Guitar, opened to public in September 1998.
The Museum tells the story of Fado Music, from its primordial origins in the alleys and taverns, to aristocratic salons, theater, radio, film, television and Fado Houses.
It includes a permanent exhibition, document centre, shop, Auditorium, school and restaurant.
The Fado Museum is very much worth a visit to better understand the meaning of Fado.
